Local Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country use 100 percent refined peanut oil to pressure-cook all of its breaded chicken. That’s a lot of peanut oil! The decision to use peanut oil was made by Chick-fil-A Founder S. Truett Cathy after experimenting with various other oils.

Chick-fil-A is a take on “chicken fillet.” Truett Cathy gave the restaurant its unusual name so that a nation just falling in love with fast-food hamburgers might better understand his product: Chick-fil-A (short for chicken fillet) was meant to suggest a chicken steak.
