Caitlin Evans: Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Scholarship Winner
This Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Scholar beat the odds and defeated cancer.
At age two, Caitlin Evans was diagnosed with brain cancer. Her parents were told she may never talk, walk or even swallow.
Two brain-tumor surgeries, one eye surgery, 97 transfusions, and multiple rounds of chemo and radiation later, Caitlin not only walks and talks, but she’s now working to complete her senior year at Central State Connecticut University.
And, this college student and Chick-fil-A team member wants to take what she learned from her experience being sick to help others as an elementary school teacher.
“I want to be a role model for my students and meet their needs,” Caitlin says. “I want to give back to all the teachers and doctors that helped me.”
But, first, she needs to finish college.
Enter Chick-fil-A’s Remarkable Futures scholarships. Since 1973, Chick-fil-A has been awarding scholarships to team members to help them pursue their dreams of higher education. Each year, eligible team members can apply to receive a Leadership Scholarship of $2,500 based on their leadership, academic achievement and community involvement. Twelve outstanding team members who have these three qualities plus a demonstrated financial need are awarded a True Inspiration Scholarship — totaling up to $25,000.
This past May, Todd Langston, Franchise Operator of the Chick-fil-A in Wallingford, Conn., where Caitlin works, surprised her with the big news: She was one of this year’s $25,000 True Inspiration Scholarship winners.
