To most, biting into a biscuit seems simple enough. But for Shona Jonson, it’s an experience—soft, flaky, golden and buttery—a delicious “pillow of goodness.”
It all started in 1946 when Truett Cathy opened a tiny diner called the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. It was in this diner where Truett developed the signature Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich and the quality service for which the family-owned business is known. Here’s a glimpse into the company that has grown to be the nation’s top chicken chain.
In 1985 – one year before the first stand-alone Chick-fil-A restaurant was built in Atlanta – the Chick-fil-A Chicken Biscuit made its debut. The arrival was part of a plan to, “offer the delicious taste of Chick-fil-A chicken throughout the day instead just lunch and dinner” with a distinctive Southern twist, said Shona Jonson, a senior manager on Chick-fil-A’s menu team.
In 2017, Chick-fil-A is celebrating its 50th anniversary. From our humble beginnings in Hapeville, Ga., to our expansion into the Northeast, West Coast and Midwest, it has been our pleasure to serve millions of customers across the country for the past five decades.
