Inside Chick-fil-A

How one fan turned their love for Cow Appreciation Day into this year’s winning t-shirt design.

Cow Appreciation Day. It’s the one day a year where herds of cow-clad guests come out to their local Chick-fil-A restaurants and show their spots in exchange for a free entrée. This year, Chick-fil-A’s 15th annual Cow Appreciation Day will take place on Tuesday, July 9.

We’ve seen some “udderly” impressive costumes over the years, ranging from last-minute accessories to hand-sewn outfits. Chick-fil-A Team Members love to join in on the fun, too, often sporting a set of ears or spots and swapping their typical uniform for a t-shirt designed especially for the day.

So, what’s the story behind those t-shirts?

Each year, Chick-fil-A Team Members from across the country show their creative side through our Cow Appreciation Day t-shirt design contest. Hundreds of designs are submitted, and once finalists are chosen, a voting competition determines the winner. What happens next? The design is featured on the t-shirts of more than 40,000 Team Members—you’ll see it on display on July 9.

This year’s winner of the Cow Appreciation Day t-shirt design contest is Amanda Boehle, restaurant marketing director of Chick-fil-A Camp Wisdom & 360 in Grand Prairie, Texas.

For Boehle, Cow Appreciation Day has been a longstanding tradition, earning itself a permanent spot on her calendar each year. As mom to a 10-year-old, 9-year-old and a 7-year old, Boehle has spent the past 10 years creating handmade costumes for the whole family to wear.

Ever since becoming a Team Member at her local Chick-fil-A restaurant five years ago, Boehle’s love for Cow Appreciation Day has only grown. When she was announced as the winner of this year’s t-shirt design contest, it was an exciting culmination of a longtime love for Cow Appreciation Day.

“This Cow Appreciation Day is going to be one for the books,” said Boehle. “I can’t wait to see my design being worn by so many Chick-fil-A Team Members on one of my favorite days of the year.”

According to Boehle, she wanted her design to personify the Chick-fil-A Cow, highlighting the endearing characteristics that fans of the famous bovines know and love.

For those looking to celebrate Cow Appreciation Day this year, it’s this easy:

1. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

2. Create your cow-clad look – the sky is the limit!
